URETHRAL BULKING
Urethral bulking is a procedure used to treat stress incontinence. It involves injecting a bulking agent into the walls of the urethra using a small telescope to treat symptoms of stress urinary incontinence. The bulking agent helps the urethra to make a watertight seal and to hold the urine inside the bladder.
Stress urinary incontinence is a common problem affecting women which is caused by weakening pelvic floor muscles (which help to keep the bladder closed), the urethra, or the ligaments that support the urethra. This leads to leaking of urine with coughing, sneezing, exertion, laughing and other activities that may increase the pressure on the abdomen.
